It’s been five years since the release of a full album from Grammy Award-winning singer Bruno Mars. 24K Magic was a delightful throwback to the 80s, especially with the last single, Finesse, his collaboration with rapper Cardi B. Meanwhile, Anderson.Paak made his own mark creating a hiphop and soul sound that was rewarded with his own Grammy.
Fast forward to 2021, and Mars and Paak are now collaborating on a new release, Leave the Door Open, which takes the retro back a full decade back. Sonically, this throwback 70s soul-sounding release is spot on and delicious in every way. The sound is irresistible, with playful lyrics that are almost silly at times, and vocal performances from Silk Sonic–the new name for this Mars/Paak collab–that are absolutely spectacular. The video itself is also a retro dream! Overall, Mars and Paak are in fine form, and we are all glad the door is open because we’re ready to run inside.
