Contemporary Christian singer-songwriter Shawn McDonald has followed up his previous hit single, Closer, which was featured on Lifetime’s Drop Dead Diva, with a new single, Rise, still off his new CD, Closer, which dropped across the USA last March 2011. I love the light, folksy sound of Rise, and its simple melody and lyrics, which make Rise almost irresistible to not sing along to, belie the deep nature and faith that one requires to sing the song with full conviction. Rise rose almost half Billboard’s Christian Songs chart this week, 43-25, and I’m pretty sure it will do even better in the weeks to come. A potential first Top 10 hit for Shawn McDonald? Very likely.
RISE Lyrics
Shawn McDonald
Yes I will rise
Out of these ashes rise
From this trouble I have found
And this rubble on the ground
I will rise
Yes I will rise
Out of these ashes rise
From this trouble I have found
And this rubble on the ground
I will rise
‘Cause He who is in me
Is greater than I will ever be
And I will rise
Yes, He who is in me
Is greater than I will ever be
And I will rise
Do do do do do do do do do do
Do do do do do do do do do do
Sometimes my heart is on the ground
And hope is nowhere to be found
Love is a figment I once knew
And yet I hold on to what I know is true
Yes I will rise
Out of these ashes rise
From this trouble I have found
And this rubble on the ground
I will rise
Yes I will rise
Out of these ashes rise
From this trouble I have found
And this rubble on the ground
I will rise
‘Cause He who is in me
Is greater than I will ever be
And I will rise
Yes He who is in me
Is greater than I will ever be
And I will rise
Well I keep on coming to this place
That I don’t know quite how to face
So I lay down my life in hopes to die
That somehow I might rise
I will rise
Out of these ashes rise
From this trouble I have found
And this rubble on the ground
I will rise
Yes, I will rise
Out of these ashes rise
From this trouble I have found
And this rubble on the ground
I will rise
‘Cause He who is in me
Is greater than I will ever be
And I will rise
Yes He who is in me
Is greater than I will ever be
And I will rise
