Contemporary Christian band MercyMe follows up its #1 smash All of Creation with another stellar track from its equally satisfying opus, The Generous Mr. Lovewell, the insightful, encouraging ballad Beautiful. On Soft AC/Inspo, Mercyme’s Beautiful is impacting in a big way. It registers the largest airplay increase, as well as the most number of stations adding it (6, compared to the next song, which is 2, tells us Beautiful registers thrice the number of stations). Over on the main AC chart, Beautiful by MercyMe also records the largest number of station increases (18, one higher than Brandon Heath’s Your Love), as well as the second-highest amount of airplay (109 increases, second only to Heath).
MercyMe’s Beautiful is, well, beautiful. An already empowering message of hope and encouragement is further complemented by a strong melody and an irresistible chorus. In my opinion, Beautiful is an even stronger single than All of Creation, and while my tastes are obviously no longer in the popular demographic of the Christian market, I think Beautiful has a very real shot of topping the main and Soft AC/Inspo charts. Furthermore, we haven’t had a song this encouraging, especially for women, since Jonny Diaz’s More Beautiful You, so we may very well see a bit of crossover action in the weeks to come. Meanwhile, while Bart Millard and the rest of MercyMe have their work cut out for them, Beautiful makes it a heck of a lot easier to top the main charts again.
