Keith and Kristyn Getty are the pioneers of the “modern hymn,” soaring songs that, together with their frequent collaborator, Stuart Townend, help teach the faith and “create a more timeless musical style that every generation can sing, a style that relates to the past and the future.” This drive to create hymns that speak to the heart of every Christian has produced gems like In Christ Alone, Speak, O Lord, and The Power of the Cross.
The Gettys’ 2009 CD, Awaken the Dawn, contains the single By Faith. For some reason, By Faith is really slow burning, and is now starting to rise up Radio and Records’ Soft AC/Inspo charts. This week, it’s the second most-added song at Inspo and registers the second-highest increase in airplay of all songs on Inspo radio this week. I don’t see why not: Kristyn’s beautiful voice underscores the message of the song, , and Keith’s rich, lush arrangement is truly moving. I can totally hear By Faith being sung at churches across the globe. Beautiful!
