Contemporary Christian pop-rock band Sixteen Cities’ Sing Along is bubbling right underneath the Top 20 of this week’s Radio and Records Christian AC chart – the big chart! – and rightly so: the Portland band’s debut single is an ebullient declaration of joy in the power and love of a great and mighty God. That kind of radio-friendly vocal hook isn’t very common in today’s Christian music marketplace, and that can only spell great things for a debut group like Sixteen Cities. Lead vocalist Josiah Warneking sounds confident enough, and the tightness with which the band plays out its debut single is catchy. I wouldn’t be surprised if churches began singing this across the United States. They should; it makes for a terrific praise or offering song.
Centricity – home to one of my favorite Christian singer-songwriters, Jaime Jamgochian – signed Sixteen Cities in 2008, and the band’s experience touring with acts like Kutless, Building 429, Fireflight and Sanctus Real, earned them real experience and notches on their belts, enough to give me confidence in declaring Sixteen Cities one of my favorite new discoveries for 2010 (right up there with The Museum, Josh Wilson, and Chris August). Give Sing Along a listen and tell me how hard it is to resist singing along!

SING ALONG Lyrics
Sixteen Cities
When I look into the painted sky
I see so many colors
They’re all a part of your design
It’s such a brilliant display
I love the way the stars shine for you
And every single mountain bows down
I love the way the universe is singing your song
So I’ll try to sing along
Looking up into the dark blue night
I’m in awe of your power
The way the moon pulls the ocean’s tide
You are never contained
I love the way the stars shine for you
And every single mountain bows down
I love the way the universe is singing your song
So I’ll try to sing along
All the world is singing your song
I raise my voice and sing along
I love the way the stars shine…for you
I love the way the stars shine…for you
I love the way the stars shine for you
And every single mountain bows down
I love the way the universe is singing your song
I love the way the stars shine for you
And every single mountain bows down
I love the way the universe is singing your song
So I’ll try to sing along
